Title:	Historical Social Research: Selective Bibliography (1975-2000)
Description:	Following the self-definition of the HSR journal, the historical social research is, in the broadest sense, defined by formal methods used in the field of history. Doubtless the development of the wide field of historical social research has been decisively marked by by a number of founding and support associations which constituted themselves mainly in the 1970s, e.g. the “Social Science History Association” (SSHA), the “Working Group for the Quantification and Methods of Historical and Social Studies” (“Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Quantifizierung und Methoden in der historisch-sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung”) – QUANTUM -, the “Association for Computers and Humanities”, the “Cliometric Society”, or the “Association for History and Computing”. Immediately after their foundation, both SSHA and Quantum published their own scientific journal, the “Social Science History” (SSHA) and the “Historical Social Research/Historische Social research (HSF)” (QUANTUM). In these two journals, far more than 1,000 articles on historical research and social science history have been published up to now. Consequently, the articles in these publications constitute the systematic basis for this selected bibliography. The bibliography begins in the year 1975 – the founding phase of both associations – and ends with the new millenium 1999/2000. Its focus lies on the systematic analysis and selection of literature taken from the corresponding scientific journals. Among these, the greatest number of references in the selected bibliography fall upon: - Historical Social Research - Social Science History - Explorations in Economic History - Journal of Interdisciplinary History - Historical Methods - History and Computing - Computer and the Humanities. In this selected bibliography, the following items are documented: 4,428 literary works, written or published by 3,706 authors in all. Among others, the criteria of selection for the systematic entry into the bibliography were the following: - publication in the Historical Social Research, or in journals of similar rank and character; - publication in topic-related collections initiated and/or edited by journals and/or support associations; - publication according to the “bilingual model” of the HSR journal in English or German. Folgt man der Selbstdefinition der Zeitschrift HSR, dann versteht man unter ‚Historischer Sozialforschung’ im weitesten Sinnne die Anwendung formaler Methoden in der Geschichte. Die Entwicklung des weiten Feldes der Historischen Sozialforschung wird maßgeblich geprägt durch die verschiedenen Gründer- und Trägervereine, die sich vor allem in den 1970er Jahren konstituiert haben.“ Zu nennen sind beispielsweise die „Social Science History Association“ (SSHA), die „Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Quantifizierung und Methoden in der historisch-sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung“ (QUANTUM), die „Association for Computers and Humanities“, die „Cliometric Society“ und die Association for History and Computing“. SSHA und Quantum begannen sofort nach ihrer Gründung mit der Herausgabe einer wissenschaftlichen Zeitschrift. Während die SSHA die Zeitschrift „Social Science History“ publiziert, gibt Quantum die Zeitschrift „Historical Social Research/Historische Sozialforschung (HSF)“ heraus. „In diesenn beiden Zeitrschriften sind bis heute weit mehr als 1000 Artikel zur Historischen Sozialforschung bzw. zur Social Science History erschienen. Selbstredend bilden die Artikel / Beiträge aus beiden Zeitschriften die systematische Grundlage für die vorliegende Auswahlbibliographie. Die Auswahlbibliographie setzt mit dem Jahr 1975 – der Gründungsphase beider Vereine – ein und endet mit der Jahrhundertwende 1999/2000. Schwerpunkt der Auswahlbibliographie bildet die systematische Auswertung und Auswahl der Literatur in denn einschlägigen wissenschaftlichen Zeitschriften. Die Zeitschriften mit der höchsten Zahl von Nachweisen in der Auswahlbibliographie sind: - Historical Social Research - Social Science History - Explorations in Economic History - Journal of Interdisciplinary History - Historical Methods - History and Computing - Computer and the Humanities. Die vorliegende Auswahlbibliographie dokumentiert insgesamt: 4.428 Literaturtitel, die von insgesamt 3.706 Autoren verfasst oder herausgegeben worden sind. Auswahlkriterien für die systematische Aufnahme in die Bibliographie waren u.a.: - die Publikation in nominell und / oder inhaltlich der Historischen Sozialforschung nahestehenden Zeitschriften; - die Publikation in einschlägigen Sammelbänden, die von den Zeitschriften und / oder von den Trägervereinen initiiert und / oder herausgegeben worden sind; - die Publikation – nach dem bilingualen Modell der Zeitschrift HSR – in englischer oder deutscher Sparache.
