Title:	Occupational Experience and Social Consciousness (Machine Fitters, Berlin)
Description:	Occupational career, job situation and attitude to topics of company co-determination among machine fitters. Topics: Occupational position and occupational mobility; job situation during apprenticeship; assessment of the usefulness of the apprenticeship for occupational career; attitude to occupational further education; characterization of one´s own job as well as description of job situation; general work satisfaction (scale); general characterization of company and satisfaction with company; achievement-based pay and satisfaction with income; job preferences; current activity exercised and general advancement orientation; interest in a position as superior; attitude to technical progress and personal impact of rationalization measures; attitudes to company democracy; success and rights of the works council; willingness to be a candidate for works council member or union representative; attitude to co-determination with equal rights on the board, to self-administration of the company by workers and employees, to participation in decisions by teams on matters of their job and to strikes; assessment of the co-determination ability of workers´ representatives; assessment of the ability to avoid unemployment and attitude to conditions of social rule; social-political orientation; general attitude to entrepreneurs; assessment of salary differences between workers and employees; assessment of the power of the trade unions; attitude to strikes as trade union means to achieve their demands; willingness to participate in a strike; judgement on lock-out; personal political interest and political interest of parents; attitude of parents to trade unions; membership in a trade union and a youth group; attitude to social problems; wage form; proportion of overtime in income; changing shift; company size; housing situation; daily newspapers and monthly magazines read. Additionally the following was collected from files of the chamber of commerce: company doing the training; apprenticeship length; crediting other training towards the prescribed apprenticeship time; grades of apprenticeship final examination and repetition of test. Interviewerrating: Ort des Interviews; Interviewdauer; Kooperationsbereitschaft des Befragten. Zusätzlich erhoben wurden aus Akten der Industrie- und Handelskammer: Ausbildungsbetrieb; Lehrzeitdauer; Anrechnung anderweitiger Ausbildung auf die vorgeschriebene Lehrzeit; Noten der Lehrabschlußprüfung und Prüfungswiederholungen.
