Title:	Abstimmungsergebnisse zu politischen Vorlagen im Kanton Basel-Landschaft: 1874 - 1988
Description:	The project examines the theory of changing political paradigms in voting behavior in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. According to this approach, there should be a transition from the "dominion" to the "distribution paradigm," as well as evidence that we are currently in a phase where the "lifestyle" paradigm is prevailing. By taking account of voter turnout, the yes/no vote difference and voting groups selected according to content criteria, the analysis draws on methods of older voting research in Switzerland. On the one hand, this orientation towards the "old school" results from the more appropriate theoretical approach and the resulting improved approximation to the research project's question. On the other hand, it methodologically allows the formation of voting groups in terms of content rather than statistical criteria. Since this study compares popular vote proposals with the same or similar content over a long period of time, the historical background in which the male voters (and since 1967 also the female voters) voted. Using the network approach to analyzing voting results, the project aims to review key aspects of the political history and culture of the canton of Basel-Landschaft. Das Projekt prüft die Theorie vom Wechsel politischer Paradigmen am Abstimmungsverhalten im Kanton Basel-Landschaft. Gemäss dieses Ansatzes sollte sich ein Uebergang vom "Herrschafts-" zum "Verteilungsparadigma" sowie Hinweise dafür zeigen, dass wir uns gegenwärtig in einer Phase befinden, in der sich das Paradigma der "Lebensweise" durchsetzt. Indem die Analyse die Stimmbeteiligung, die Ja/Nein-Stimmen-Differenz und nach inhaltlichen Kriterien ausgewählte Abstimmungsgruppen berücksichtigt, greift sie auf Methoden der älteren Abstimmungsforschung in der Schweiz zurück. Diese Orientierung an der "alten Schule" resultiert einerseits aus der angemesseneren theoretischen Vorgehensweise und der damit verbundenen besseren Annäherung an die Fragestellung des Forschungsvorhabens, andererseits erlaubt sie in methodischer Hinsicht die Bildung von Abstimmungsgruppen über inhaltliche anstatt statistischer Kriterien. Da in dieser Untersuchung Abstimmungsvorlagen mit gleichem oder ähnlichem Inhalt über einen grossen Zeitraum hinweg miteinander verglichen werden, wird hier auch der historische Hintergrund im Auge behalten, vor dem die Stimmbürger (und ab 1967 auch die Stimmbürgerinnen) über die Vorlagen befanden. Unter Verwendung des Netzwerk-Ansatzes zur Analyse von Abstimmungsergebnissen versucht das Projekt wesentliche Aspekte der politischen Geschichte und Kultur des Kantons Basel-Landschaft aufzuarbeiten.
